FEB UNS Establishes New Student Organization: “Excel” English Club
Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), has formally established a new Students Organization (Ormawa) under the name English Club “Excel”, through the Dean’s Decree No. 569/UN27.04/KM.04.00/2025 dated January 30, 2025. Proficiency in English is one of the essential skills for students, especially in the context of communication. Therefore, the establishment of English Club “Excel” at FEB aims to provide a platform for students to improve their English language skills outside of formal classroom settings.
The new Ormawa is designed not only serves as a room for practicing speaking and writing in English but also as a medium to broaden global cultural understanding, strengthen interpersonal abilities, and encourage collaboration among students from diverse backgrounds.
Through activities such as discussions, debates, workshops, and community-based initiatives, members of English Club “Excel” can learn together, share insights, and develop their English skills in practical ways. The primary objective of the club is to create an environment that supports effective English language development while also enhancing members’ confidence in using the language.
Tastaftiyan Risfandy, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs, recounts the initial establishment process of English Club “Excel.”
“Along with several students, we discussed and initiated a process to find the best way to support FEB students in competitions—particularly those involving English. This is also related to the requirements for Outstanding Student selections (Mawapres), where English proficiency is one of the key components. Mastery of English is highly important. With the establishment of this Ormawa, we hope it will serve as a bridge for students before they enter competitions. It allows them to connect and interact with their peers in the club, so they can develop their speaking and other related skills. I would like to thank the Dean for supporting the establishment of English Club “Excel,” especially in providing opportunities for students to improve their English language competence,” he stated.
Prof. Bhimo Rizky Samudro, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Dean of FEB UNS, expressed his appreciation for the initiative from the Student and Alumni Affairs division, noting that English Club “Excel” will provide valuable opportunities for its members to improve their English proficiency, making them more prepared to compete.
According to the Dean, beyond its relevance for student competitions and the Outstanding Student (Mawapres) selections, this club also contributes to FEB’s ongoing efforts to achieve AACSB international accreditation. The accreditation process involves all academic members, including faculty, academic support staff, and students.
