PPK Ormawa Team BEM FEB and SAR UNS Holds Disaster Mitigation-Ready Women in Karangturi Village

The Student Organization (Ormawa) Capacity Improvement Program (PPK) Team by Executive Board of Students (BEM), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) once again held the 5th program from the Karangturi Women’s School (SEANTURI) with the theme “Disaster Mitigation-Ready Women”, on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Karangturi Village, Gondangrejo District, Karanganyar Regency.

In this program, the PPK Ormawa BEM FEB UNS team collaborated with SAR UNS in the 5th program implementation, which focused on disaster mitigation.

The implementation of the Disaster Mitigation-Ready Women program was held with the objective of increasing the insight and knowledge of the community, especially women, in responding to disasters that occur in their surrounding environment.

To achieve the program indicator points, the program implementation is not only filled with material presentation sessions but also practice sessions and assignments that can support the participants’ understanding of the related material presented.

The SAR UNS team as a collaborator in this program believes that potential disasters that might occur in Karangturi Village are earthquakes and fires, considering that geographically, Karangturi Village is a fairly hilly and arid area. Therefore, the material session presented is related to earthquakes and their mitigation, followed by a practice session in the form of a fire extinguishing simulation, which was led and guided by a team from SAR UNS. Both participants and the PPK Ormawa BEM FEB team were very enthusiastic about practicing fire mitigation simulations.

After the material session and simulation practice were completed, the 5th program activity continued with assignments on earthquake disaster mitigation steps.

Based on this assignment, it can be seen that participants have followed the material session well, thus, they already understand enough about earthquake mitigation. In addition, participants also seemed quite enthusiastic about doing assignments given by the PPK Ormawa BEM FEB UNS team.

The Disaster Mitigation-Ready Women program was closed with the handing over of a token of appreciation by the PPK Ormawa BEM FEB UNS team to SAR UNS as a form of appreciation for the collaboration that has been carried out.

PPK Ormawa BEM FEB team and SAR UNS hope that through this program, community awareness and knowledge about potential disasters that occur in Karangturi Village will be improved, thus, the residents can provide a safer feeling for themselves, their families, and communities.
