Cybersecurity in Banking Talk Show: Collaboration Among Infobank Media, FEB UNS, and ISEI

Infobank Media Group, in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), and the Indonesian Economists Association (ISEI), hosted a Talk Show and Book Launch on Bank Cybersecurity on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The event took place in the Suhardi Building Auditorium at FEB UNS.

With over 200 participants in attendance, the talk show was part of the broader activities of the 22nd ISEI Congress. The event invited two prominent speakers: Zuwin Adriano, Business Development Manager at Privy, and Roberto Akyuwen, author and Head of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) for Jabodetabek and Banten Province.

Several distinguished guests attended the event, including Bhimo Rizky Samudro, SE, M.Si., Ph.D., Dean of FEB UNS; Apriyani Kurniasih, Director of Infobank; Eko B Supriyanto, Chairman of Infobank; and Lukman Hakim, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Chairman of ISEI Surakarta.

The Dean of FEB UNS extended his gratitude and appreciation for the talk show, emphasizing its relevance to academics and students. “This topic is highly beneficial, especially for us in academia and our students. It is essential for them to develop their knowledge, particularly those in the Digital Business program, one of FEB’s highly sought-after majors. I hope the students pay close attention to today’s topic, Cybersecurity in Banking, as it is incredibly important,” he stated.

The Dean also appreciated the collaboration with ISEI, describing the talk show as an excellent initiative that brought together various stakeholders. He expressed hope for continued partnerships and future joint activities beyond this event.

In his opening remarks, Eko B Supriyanto, Chairman of Infobank Media Group, highlighted the remarkable contribution of The Cybersecurity in Banking Book by Roberto Akyuwen. “In a country like Indonesia, where financial, digital, and cybercrime literacy remains low, this book by Mr. Roberto stands out with over 600 pages of rich content. It integrates theories, regulations, real-world practices, and research findings. Such comprehensive resources are rare, making this book an extraordinary contribution,” he remarked.

As the book’s editor, Eko noted its engaging content and emphasized its central theme: strategies to mitigate cybercrime risks in the banking sector.

The book offers a clear definition of cybercrime, describing it as illegal or fraudulent activities carried out using digital technology and the internet. The initial chapters detail various types of cybercrime, including phishing, malware, ransomware, and internal threats. It provides real-world examples from global incidents, illustrating the diverse nature of cyber threats. Financial institutions, in particular, face a rising trend of cyberattacks, with occurrences happening almost every minute worldwide.

Eko stressed the importance of a strong leadership commitment to cybersecurity, calling for a balance between security measures and operational convenience. “Top management must prioritize cybersecurity. Leaders at the highest levels need to be aware, as it cannot be relegated to just one department. This is an ongoing process, requiring consistent attention beyond initial investments in IT. This book underscores that lesson,” he explained.

The book also offers a detailed guide on crisis protocols and actionable steps to take in the event of a cyberattack. Its final chapter emphasizes the development of a cybersecurity culture, identifying three critical elements: safety, vigilance, and preparedness, which should form the foundation of workplace practices.
