Community Engagement Team Supports Magelang’s Signature Coffee Industry in Expanding to the Global Market

A collaborative Community Engagement team from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Universitas Tidar, Kopi Kahyangan Wonolelo, Kopi Kenteng Songo Wonolelo, and the Magelang Regional Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (Bapperida) hosted a community engagement program entitled “Empowering the Coffee Processing Industry as a Regional Signature Product in Magelang Regency toward the Global Market” on Friday, 12 June 2026. The program was held at Kopi Kahyangan Wonolelo in Wonolelo Village, Sawangan District, Magelang Regency.

Supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the initiative aimed to strengthen the capacity of coffee processing entrepreneurs to develop regional signature products capable of competing in both national and international markets.

Magelang Regency has considerable potential as one of Indonesia’s coffee-producing regions. However, local coffee businesses continue to face several challenges, including improving product quality, strengthening business management, expanding digital marketing capabilities, and increasing market access. Through this community engagement program, the team provided assistance to enhance human resource capacity, encourage product innovation, strengthen marketing strategies, and expand business networks for participating partners.

During the program, the team delivered presentations on developing the coffee industry as a regional signature product. Participants also took part in discussions on improving product quality and meeting market standards, received guidance on branding strategies and digital marketing, explored export opportunities and global market development, and joined interactive question-and-answer sessions with industry partners, followed by an evaluation of the program. The program was conducted successfully and received enthusiastic participation from coffee entrepreneurs and other attendees.

Through this initiative, participating partners gained a deeper understanding of business development strategies for the coffee industry, product quality standards aligned with market demands, and approaches to strengthening branding, digital marketing, and global market expansion. In addition to enhancing the capacity of local business partners, the program strengthened communication and collaboration between higher education institutions and coffee entrepreneurs in Magelang Regency. As a follow-up, the collaborating institutions agreed to continue providing assistance to further improve the competitiveness of coffee products from Magelang Regency.
