Another Visiting Professor Lecture, Management Study Program Takes on Organizational Justice and Flexibility

Hosting another event under the Visiting Professor Program for the Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka Program (PKKM) 2022, the Bachelor of Management Study Program, FEB UNS, invited Associate Professor Clotilde Coron from IAE Paris Sorbonne Business School France. In the current Guest Lecture Management agenda, Assoc. Prof. Coron delivers material entitled ‘Organizational Justice and Flexibility’ through the Zoom Cloud Meeting platform. The Guest Lecture session was conducted on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022, and was led by Dr. Wulan Permatasari as Moderator.

The material presentation started with the organization configuration approach proposed by Mintzberg regarding the five internal actors in an organization, namely, the strategic plan officer (executive), middle management, center operation, technostructure, and supporting staff. “In the organizational configuration approach, each part of the five categories has a different role,” said Prof. Coron.

Related to Mintzberg’s approach, Prof. Coron further explains five coordination mechanisms that can be applied to different types of organizations. One of the coordination mechanisms is Participative Management (mutual adjustment), which is suitable for an organization with high competency and qualification, where only limited formal coordination is needed. “Example of this mechanism is project management, innovation research, and organization with complex problems. However, the challenge in applying this model is determining the collective objective. Because without this objective, the organization cannot operate well,” explains Prof. Coron.

The discussion about organization management is followed by the advantage of systems in human resource management and the significance of workplace flexibility. According to Prof. Coron, this flexibility is crucial in this VUCA environment, where transformation can happen quickly. For an organization, flexibility can be defined as the capacity to execute an initiative quickly and the capability to adjust organizational processes and structure.

Concluding the material presentation, Prof. Coron discussed organizational justice and the contribution of various theories in human resource management research. At the end of the session, students participated in an enthusiastic question-and-answer session with Prof. Coron.
