Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), organized the Human Resource Management Practitioner Lecture II titled Human Resource Transformation and Addressing the Challenges Brought by AI and Digitization<\/em> on Saturday, 20 June 2026, via Zoom Meeting. The session featured Ripy Mangkoesoebroto, S.Psi., M.Sc., Commissioner of PT Sampoerna Karya Bangsa, who shared insights into the transformation of human resource management amid the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digitalization. The lecture provided students with practical perspectives on the evolving world of work and the challenges of managing human resources in an era of technological transformation.<\/p>\n

In her presentation, Ripy organized the discussion into three main themes: what is changing, leading the transformation of people and culture, and how individuals and organizations can prepare for the future. During the first section, she explained that AI and digitalization have fundamentally reshaped how organizations operate, affecting customer interactions, supply chains, business processes, and job structures. These changes have transformed existing roles while creating new positions that require different competencies. As a result, continuous skills development has become essential.<\/p>\n

Ripy emphasized that organizations are increasingly focused not on job descriptions, but on business outcomes and impact. She also highlighted the growing gap between industry demands and the available talent pool, noting that many graduates still lack the competencies required by employers. This highlights the importance of strengthening skills such as digital and AI literacy, data literacy, analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, adaptability, curiosity, and a strong sense of ownership.<\/p>\n

Following the first section, Ripy discussed how organizational transformation must be accompanied by changes in managing people and organizational culture. Organizational structures are becoming more agile, collaborative, and competency-based, while performance evaluation is shifting from measuring activities to assessing business impact and results. Likewise, leadership is evolving from a supervisory role into one that facilitates team development and manages collaboration between people and technology.<\/p>\n

She stressed that despite continuous technological advancement, human qualities remain indispensable, particularly empathy, communication, and sound decision-making. Employee well-being is also becoming increasingly important, as optimal performance can only be achieved when individuals are in good physical and mental condition. Lastly, in the third section Ripy emphasized the importance of preparing both individuals and organizations for increasingly rapid change. Adaptability, effective use of technology, and lifelong learning are now critical capabilities. She also highlighted the need to strengthen competencies such as analytical thinking, innovation, self-management, resilience, communication, and collaboration. At the organizational level, she emphasized that AI governance and data protection must be implemented ethically and responsibly.<\/p>\n

Ripy further explained that the role of the Human Resource, or People and Culture, function has evolved into that of a strategic business partner. Beyond administrative responsibilities, HR now plays a key role in data-driven talent management, future workforce planning, and the ethical application of technology in human resource decision-making.<\/p>\n

Concluding her presentation, Ripy emphasized that AI should not be viewed as a threat, but as a tool to enhance productivity and competitiveness. She reminded participants that in the digital era, people will not be replaced by technology itself, but by those who are able to use technology more effectively.<\/p>\n

The activity also contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by strengthening education, enhancing workforce readiness, and promoting the effective use of innovation and technology in organizational transformation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
