The Green Economy and Sustainable Development Research Group (RG) at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), in collaboration with the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) of Central Java Province, held an initial research discussion on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the Teleconference Room, Soedarah Soepono Building, FEB UNS. This event marks the initial step of a research collaboration between FEB UNS and BRIDA Central Java in assessing economic development based on regional potential and environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n

The discussion covered two primary research topics: the Transformation of Rural-Based Regional Superior Commodities Toward a High Value-Added Green Economy, and the Policy Analysis of Sustainable Tourism Development in the Gunung Sewu Geopark Area. Both studies are expected to generate policy recommendations that support the strengthening of the local economy while preserving environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n

In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Izza Mafruhah, S.E., M.Si., stated that geopark areas possess immense potential to drive regional economic growth if managed properly and integrated with community economic activities. She assessed that the Gunung Sewu Geopark area has a great opportunity to be further developed through comprehensive studies and support from various stakeholders.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe research conducted is expected not to remain merely an academic report, but to be capable of providing a real contribution in the form of policy recommendations that can be utilized by the government and the community,\u201d Prof. Izza expressed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the representative from BRIDA Central Java, Arif Sofianto, explained that BRIDA currently focuses on strengthening research, studies, and policy assessments capable of delivering a direct impact on regional development. According to him, collaboration with universities is highly vital to produce applied research that can serve as a foundation for formulating development policies.<\/p>\n

He added that the study on green MSMEs will highlight the development of rural-based superior commodities utilizing a green economy approach, such as optimizing the utilization of agricultural commodity yields and waste to generate higher added value. This approach is expected to stimulate product innovation and reinforce the local industrial supply chain. Concurrently, the study on the Gunung Sewu Geopark will focus on the policy analysis of sustainable tourism development.<\/p>\n

This research does not merely look at geological potential, but also assesses the cultural, social, and economic aspects of the community surrounding the geopark, enabling it to become part of a more inclusive southern region development strategy. This initial discussion served as a forum for exchanging ideas between the FEB UNS research team and BRIDA Central Java in formulating the research framework, data collection methods, and the direction of the policy recommendations to be produced.<\/p>\n

This collaboration is expected to yield studies that are not only academically beneficial but also provide a real contribution to regional economic development based on local potential and sustainability principles. This initiative supports the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through the strengthening of the local economy and green MSMEs, SDG Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through the development of sustainability-based economics, and SDG Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through research collaboration between higher education institutions and regional governments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
