Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) presented another interactive and insightful atmosphere through the International Students Sharing Session held on Thursday, 20 November 2025 at the Konimex Hall of FEB UNS. The event featured three international students currently pursuing their studies at FEB UNS—Mabengba David Aja Kofi (Ghana), Sylivia Aulila Lugereka (Tanzania), and Tazegul Nyyasmammedova (Turkmenistan)—who shared their experiences regarding challenges and survival strategies as students.

In his opening remarks, Mulyadi, S.E., M.Ec.Dev., Ph.D., Lecturer at FEB UNS, emphasized the importance of this activity as a platform for cross-cultural learning. He encouraged students to use the opportunity to actively practice their English communication skills. “I expect active participation from the students. Push yourselves to the fullest so that your English proficiency improves through direct conversations with international students,” stated Dr. Mulyadi. He further noted that such interactions can expand students’ perspectives, particularly for those planning to pursue further studies abroad.

During his session, Kofi encouraged participants not to be afraid of making mistakes when speaking English, stressing that communication itself is the priority. “Do not be afraid of being wrong. We are not native speakers, so there is no need to use a professional standard. What matters is that the person you are speaking to understands your point,” he shared.

Kofi reminded students that fear of mistakes often becomes the biggest obstacle in language learning.

Meanwhile, Sylivia highlighted the importance of having an interest in the country one plans to visit. Such interest, she explained, helps individuals better prepare for life in a new environment. “Although many people can speak English, there are still situations, such as in traditional markets, where we need to understand the local language,” she noted while sharing her experiences in Indonesia.

She also offered financial management tips for international students, suggesting that comparing prices using one’s home currency can serve as an effective saving strategy.

Tazegul shared her personal experience attending an English training center, where all participants were constantly encouraged to communicate in English, even if imperfectly. “Because we were used to speaking English every day, my skills improved rapidly; the environment plays a major role,” she explained.

The sharing session extended beyond language-related issues, covering topics such as survival strategies, overcoming homesickness, financial management, and building global networks before graduation. Through direct interaction, FEB UNS students gained deeper insights into the realities of life as international learners.

The International Students Sharing Session aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Through the exchange of experiences and cross-cultural dialogue, the activity enhances global learning quality and supports international partnership-building within the university environment.
