In an effort to drive a collaborative and productive academic atmosphere, the Center for Research and Community Engagement Development (P4M) at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), in collaboration with the Financial Markets and Institutions Research Group (RG), organized a Working Paper Forum event titled “The Success of Social Project in Online Donation-Based Crowdfunding in Indonesia.” The event, which was conducted virtually via a Zoom Meeting on Tuesday, April 27, 2026, was attended by faculty members and students within FEB UNS.

The Head of P4M FEB UNS, Dr. Wahyu Widarjo, S.E., M.Si., stated in his opening remarks that the selected theme is highly relevant to the rapidly growing phenomenon of crowdfunding in Indonesia. “Through this activity, we aim to enhance the academic atmosphere within the faculty to encourage research interest as well as the quantity and quality of studies. This is also part of our joint efforts to achieve key performance indicators (IKU) and establish FEB as a world-class faculty,” he expressed.

Furthermore, he also hoped that participants would gain insights from the speaker, who possesses extensive experience in generating publications for reputable international journals.

The speaker for this event, Tastaftiyan Risfandy, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs at FEB UNS, presented his research regarding the success of social projects on donation-based crowdfunding platforms in Indonesia, specifically utilizing data from the Kitabisa platform. He explained that crowdfunding is a funding method that involves contributions from numerous individuals to support a project or initiative, particularly those of a social nature.

The study utilized data from 2,814 crowdfunding campaigns spanning the 2018–2026 period. The research findings indicate that social campaigns possess a higher probability of success compared to other types of campaigns. Additionally, factors such as the funding target, the experience of the fundraiser, and momentum—such as the month of Ramadan—also influence campaign success rates. Notably, Indonesia is recorded as one of the most generous countries in the world, with 83% of the population participating in donations in 2021.

Furthermore, the study discovered regional differences, where social campaigns located outside Java Island tend to be more successful than those within Java. Cultural factors, social solidarity, and donor participation serve as vital elements in determining campaign success. Overall, the results of this study confirm that social campaigns significantly increase the probability of funding success and the total amount of funds collected.

Hopefully, this forum can nurture an exchange of ideas and a strengthening of the research culture will take place within FEB UNS, while simultaneously contributing to the expansion of literature on donation-based crowdfunding in Indonesia. This activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) through the strengthening of academic research, and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the collaboration between units and research groups in advancing scientific knowledge.

Center for Research and Community Engagement Development (P4M) at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), organized the Phase 2 Article Assistance Workshop carrying the theme “Strategies for Writing Big Data Analysis Articles” on Tuesday (14/4/2026) virtually via a Zoom Meeting. The event, which featured Nila Armelia Windasari, S.A., MBA., Ph.D., PCM., a faculty member from the School of Business and Management (SBM) ITB as the keynote speaker, was attended by faculty members and students of FEB UNS. The workshop aimed to enhance the ability of faculty members and students to compose high-quality scientific articles based on Big Data Analysis that are ready for publication in reputable journals.

“Through this workshop, hopefully the participants can acquire a deeper understanding of writing strategies for big data-based articles, ranging from data acquisition, data processing, to publication techniques,” stated Dr. Wahyu Widarjo, S.E., M.Si., Head of P4M FEB UNS in his opening remarks.

Nila Armelia Windasari presented strategies for writing scientific articles by emphasizing the importance of proper structure, methodology, and data presentation. She explained that article titles should be specific and contain no more than 16 words, while the abstract must capture attention and indicate the research positioning clearly. “The abstract must state the research positioning clearly, and the methodology needs to be explained transparently, including data processing procedures,” she explained.

Furthermore, she reminded researchers to report research findings clearly without excessive descriptions, and to avoid claiming causal relationships that cannot be proven within large-scale observational data. During the session on research and publication strategies, she emphasized that publication quality holds more significance than quantity. She shared her routine of regularly reading articles from top-tier journals and incorporating multi-method approaches to build editor confidence in research findings. She also presented examples of secondary data-based research utilizing platforms such as Twitter, Google Maps, and TripAdvisor.

In discussing social media data research, she illustrated a study on Komodo National Park visitors that utilized more than 42,000 data records. She stressed the importance of clarity in the title, confidence in delivering the research contribution, and using keywords relevant to the academic community. Additionally, she outlined the structure for writing an effective academic introduction, which includes a hook, gap, contribution, and roadmap. She demonstrated that a good introduction contains only one main idea per paragraph and spans no more than 2.5 to 3 pages.

Regarding the writing aspect, she also emphasized the importance of avoiding jargon and structuring the literature review based on conceptual logic rather than chronology, utilizing “forward snowballing” and “backward snowballing” techniques to track references. In the methodology session, she explained the necessity of transparency and accuracy in Big Data research, including data pre-processing steps such as tokenization, data cleaning, topic analysis, and validation. She asserted that the documentation of the research process must be done in detail, including disclosing research limitations. “It is important not to claim causality in observational research and to ensure the entire process is well-documented,” she remarked.

This activity is hopefully going to strengthen the academic capacity of FEB UNS faculty members in producing high-quality scientific publications that are globally competitive. More broadly, this workshop also contributes to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) through the development of academic competencies, and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through the strengthening of data and technology-driven research.

Centre for Research and Community Service Development (P4M), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), held a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Workshop entitled “Strategies for Integrating SDGs in Strengthening the Academic Performance and Reputation of FEB UNS” on Wednesday, 19 February 2026, conducted online via Zoom Meeting. The workshop featured Luluk Lusiantoro, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), as the resource speaker.

The workshop aims to strengthen understanding and implementation of the SDGs, integrate SDGs into the curriculum and teaching and learning process, promote SDGs-based research and community service roadmaps, and support the enhancement of institutional performance and the sustainability reputation of FEB UNS.

The event was opened with remarks by Prof. Tri Mulyaningsih, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Research Affairs, who emphasised the urgency of integrating SDGs into academic and research activities.

“The purpose of today’s activity is to introduce the concept of the Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs. Although this may not be an entirely new concept for many of us, some colleagues are still unfamiliar with the Sustainable Development paradigm. The aim is to explore how UNS can develop learning materials and advance research and community service in accordance with societal needs — whether at the household, industry, business, or government level. Starting this year, UNS is intensifying its efforts to stay relevant by linking teaching and research to the principles of sustainable development and the SDGs,” she elaborated.

In the presentation session, Dr. Luluk Lusiantoro discussed the challenges of the triple planetary crisis and the importance of transforming business education to align with the principles of sustainability. He presented material related to good practices in SDGs integration at FEB UGM through the Sustainable Business School Framework (SBSF), which encompasses curriculum strengthening, the development of sustainability-based research roadmaps, and the preparation of sustainability reports in accordance with global standards.

Dr. Luluk further elaborated on concrete practices of SDGs integration at FEB UGM, including the development of courses such as Business Ethics and Sustainability, Circular Economy, and Sustainability Accounting; the opening of a Sustainability Management concentration within the MBA program; the preparation of a faculty Sustainability Report as an instrument for monitoring and evaluating sustainability performance; and the strengthening of international partnerships, including dual degree programs and global collaborations in the field of sustainability.

He pointed-out that the integration of SDGs must go beyond mere inclusion in curriculum documents, and should be reflected in the learning process, the direction of faculty research, community service initiatives, and institutional governance. Through such an approach, business schools can serve as drivers of economic transformation towards a more inclusive and sustainable model.

This activity supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the areas of quality education, sustainable economic growth, responsible consumption and production, and partnerships for the goals, as part of FEB UNS’s commitment to advancing global sustainable development.
